Day Hike in Wildcat Creek
When: Sunday Feb 25, 2007 -
(end of
ski week vacation)
Report: We had a great time. The weather was great and the
hike was great.
There was a nice steep part in the beginning that was long enough to be
challenging but ended before we got too tired out. There was enough mud
for the scouts to have fun walking in it but not so much that it became
old. There was even one short steep downhill part where we had to worry
about sliding off the trail from the mud, but we all navigated that
with no mishaps. We made great time and were back in Piedmont just
before 1 p.m. Had we left earlier, we might have even been able to have
lunch at home. As it was we stopped at a picnic table a short distance
from the parking lot for lunch. Naturally there were many places with
great views.
There were two coyote sightings, one red tailed hawk, numerous cows
and a few squirrels. We deviated from the originally planned route and
got to see the creek where the pictures and short video clip was taken.

Summary:
We explored the beautiful Wildcat Creek hike in Wildcat Canyon
Regional Park which is a short drive away. It is a 6 mile hike
with
enough elevation change to keep things interesting. Parts of the
hike were along Wildcat Creek which is fun this time of the year.
This is a great opportunity for
scouts and parents alike to explore one of our local treasures with the
troop. If you have never hiked Wildcat Canyon before, then this
is
definitely a hike you want to go on to see the natural beauty available
only about 20 minutes away from Piedmont.
Advancement:
Second Class requirements 1a and 1b can be met on this hike.
